Our story

How it works

Step 1

Choose a social

Our activity changes every social, and it doesn't matter if you've played a sport your entire life or this will be your first attempt. Every social is built to be accessible and enjoyable for all experience levels.

Step 2

Show up

Our socials are designed to help you connect. We get stuck straight into the activity, so there's no time for awkward small talk. Before you know it, you're already laughing together through a shared experience.

Step 3

Leave with new friends

Every social ends with refreshments and an opportunity to keep connecting. That's where the real friendships are built. It really is that simple.

Before you book

Do I need experience?

No! Every social is open to all experience levels unless specifically stated otherwise. Each session is run by qualified coaches, so whether you've played your whole life or this is your first attempt, everyone can join in!

Can I come by myself?

Of course! Most people come solo and the whole intention is to make friends, so you won't be solo for long.

What about gear?

All equipment is always included unless the event page states otherwise. Bring water, comfy clothes and good vibes.

Refunds

Refunds are available up to 7 days before the event. After that, spots are locked in, but you can pass your ticket to a mate or to our waitlist.

What if it's sold out?

Always join our waitlist, that way you'll be first to know if a spot opens up!

Where are you based?

Perth, WA. Socials move around between beaches, courts, gyms and ovals, so keep an eye on the venue for each one.

About

Hi, I'm Mish.

I moved to Perth in February 2025, and after five months of living here I realised I still hadn't made any friends. I accepted that friends weren't going to find me, so I set out on a mission to find them.

I joined coffee walks and put myself out there on social media, but nothing was helping me truly connect and find my people. Then it clicked: all my friends back home, I'd made through sport. I've always loved trying new things and being adventurous, and I was desperate to find people who shared those passions. So I launched a Facebook page to try to find them. It turned out there were a lot of you out there!

Within two weeks of launching, I ran our first event: beach volleyball. Then I ran another, and another. Before I knew it, I was running seven events a month and had met people I truly believe will be friends for life.

Meeting them was easy and organic. At a Newbie Nation social, we throw you straight into the activity. No icebreakers, no small talk. When you're learning a new skill, you're not thinking about connecting, you're just doing it. You're sharing an experience, and that bonds you, gives you something to talk about and lets you laugh together. At every event it still blows my mind how seamless it is, and how many new friendships I watch blossom in a 90-minute social.

Newbie Nation has completely changed my life, and I hope it can do the same for you. Stepping out of your comfort zone can be terrifying, but it's only when we put ourselves into new experiences that we open ourselves up to new outcomes.

Join our next social, and see for yourself.

How it works

The problem

Venues struggle to attract beginners, because walking in alone is intimidating. People want to try your sport, but no one wants to go alone, and no one wants to be the only newbie in the room.

Where we help

We partner with you to bring you a group of complete newbies, levelling the playing field for all attendees. We run the marketing and event coordination, so all you need to do is what you do best: run a great session and show them why they should keep coming back.

What you get

Consistent events with regular new faces, shoutouts on our social media, access to our sports photographer content, and the opportunity to offer custom discounts to bring our newbies back.

Our numbers in year one

In one year of Newbie Nation we've achieved:

8,000+community across our social media
Weeklysocials across 27 sports clubs & venues, totalling 63 in one year
1,242newbies brought together and through our partners' doors
